March Madness Basketball Tournament Bracket
The big day dawned and at the end of it, 68 eligible teams were hand-picked for the games and then began one of the least productive times of the year! Everyone is glued to whatever is handily available be it TV, radio, smart phone, iPad or whatever gadget that is capable of streaming live audio or preferably, audio and video. Our collective wisdom calls this the March Madness. It’s a period when talking about anything other than basketball betting the NCAA games is deemed sacrilege.
Even those who have no love for sports, have to for the sake of survival, pay careful attention to the happenings at the NCAA because every party in town is going to be talking about the March Madness 2012 and to show ignorance would mean being branded a moron.
Okay, enuf said, now let’s write about the selection itself. As always, there were a few loud gripes about decisions of Jeff Hathaway and his Selection Committee (show us a season when there were no gripes). Each of us has our own favorite basketball team(s) that we would have liked to make the cut. When they don’t, well, we have to blame someone. When it came to decisions I did not like, my uncle used to say “Johnny, put those thoughts in your rearview mirror”. It’s history! The 68 teams have been selected and there’s precious little you can do if your favorite team did not make it, other than do some basketball betting to boost the exitement of watching the games.
Now let’s take a look at first 15 of the NCAA 2012 teams:
- Kentucky: The Wildcats have what it takes to make the grade. John Calipari’s is at his season’s best and his form could not come at a better time than this.
- North Carolina: The Tar Heels have had it pretty rough this time. But having made the cut, if they get their act together, they do have the talent to cause some major upsets.
- Syracuse: With just one loss at full strength, the Orange could be a difficult team to come up against.
- Missouri: The Tigers have undoubtedly the nation’s best offensive lineup. This will definitely be a team worth watching.
- Ohio State: The Buckeyes have the awesome three – William Buford, Aaron Craft and Jared Sullinger. These three on their own have enough talent between them to be deemed game changers.
- Kansas: Some of us might wonder how or why the Jayhawks made the cut. Whatever be the reason, they have the talented Thomas Robinson and Tyshawn Taylor in their team. It is like saying they have Superman and Batman in their team.
- Michigan State: It is often said that individuals don’t matter, the team matters. This is more so in the case of Michigan – together as a team they can be quite formidable.
- Marquette: The Golden Eagles are a truly formidable team. Any team that has to challenge the Golden Eagles is going to have a tough fight on their hands.
- Baylor: The Bears are a team that beat Kansas in the Big 12 tournament! Some claim it was just a lucky – we doubt it. It takes more than just luck to beat Kansas.
- Wichita State: The Shockers are deemed the nation’s best non-BCS club. Well, now they’ve made the cut, we have to wait and watch.
- Michigan: The Wolverines’ style is awesome to watch and Trey Burke is ranked as the best PGs in the country. Definitely a team worth watching.
- Florida State: Those of us who saw their game at ACC tournament will acknowledge that this team has the iron. It has what it takes to cause major upsets.
- New Mexico: If depth matters then it does not get any better than the Lobos! They have plenty of it along with 3-point shooters and then of course, there’s Drew Gordon.
- Memphis: Memphis is definitely top class material. Let’s hope the Tigers keep up the momentum and don’t burn themselves on the way up.
- Temple: Fact is, the Owls seemed to be the tournament bid even before the Atlantic 10 season started. Without doubt, Temple has experience, poise and good tournament resume – one capable of causing major upsets.
