Odds on the NCAA March Madness 2012

One month to go! The NCAA Basketball Tournament 2012 is yet to get into gear and March Madness is already in full swing. Exciting times are here again. So let us take a look at sleepers that can do damage this season on the NCAA Basketball odds and in the process, help us make a decent pile of cash.

Now bear in mind that we are looking at chances of making money and not at top teams with a chance to win. The three teams we write about are not necessarily top contenders for the NCAA Basketball tournament. Instead, these are deep sleepers at very long odds capable of making us a decent pile of cash because of their ability to win a few games. Of course, these deep sleepers could easily land themselves in the Sweet 16 and also set up some sweet hedging possibilities that will make the bettors smile all the way to the bank.

We have selected three sleepers from the Big East and the SEC and five from mid-major conferences of which, two are from the Mountain West. Mountain West of course, is the sixth ranked conference in the country (Pomeroy Ratings) and therefore the highest ranking mid-major conference. Of course due lack of space, we are writing about only three here.

Three Sleepers

We have also included the current odds at winning the NCAA Basketball Championship (source: Bodog). We remind you again, that these are super long shots with the guaranteed ability and talent to win a few games. Our primary aim is to set up some nice hedges that these teams will actually make it to New Orleans for the Final Four.

Vanderbilt (40/1): The Commodores have done well and why not? After all, this is easily one of the most experienced teams in the country. They have had huge and convincing wins over Marquette, LSU and Alabama and have secured the third spot directly behind the Florida squad. Don’t be surprised if Venderbilt Commodores secure a 6-8 seed instead, be prepared for it.

With senior forward Jeffery Taylor and junior guard John Jenkins, Vanderbilt can hold out against most of the top rated squads in the nation. They have the potential to go deep in the SEC tournament and use it as a springboard for the NCAA Tournament.

The best news is that Ezeli is now back in the team and ever since his return, the team has gone from strength to strength and we could easily see them peak in March.

Keep an eye on this talented group of young men – they hold great potential for the bettors.

UNLV (40/1): Ranked 19th in the country (Pomeroy Ratings), the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels could be in dangerous form this March. With 21-4, some people were quick to dismiss the Rebels but let us not forget that they won convincingly against top-ranked North Carolina early in the season.

Also Rebels are pretty good on both sides of the ball. Their score on Offense:

  • 18th in adjusted efficiency
  • 14th in effective field goal percentage
  • 16th in two-point shooting
  • 55th in three-point shooting.

On defense their score is:

  • 39th in efficiency
  • 37th in effective field goal percentage
  • 21st in two point defense
  • 142nd in three-point shooting

Saint Louis (75/1): Without doubt, Saint Louis is amongst the best team in the Atlantic 10. They are currently the highest ranked team from the A-10 (Pomeroy Ratings). Coach Rick Majerus too confirms that without doubt, Saint Louis has assembled the best possible team this season. On Offense, their score is:

  • 29th in offensive efficiency
  • 32nd in effective field goal percentage
  • 11th in two-point shooting and
  • 31st in three-point shooting

There are many more deep sleepers and we shall reveal them in the days ahead. Find more odds at Bet Online. or at any of the sites recommended below for March Madness Betting.
