We’re back and starting this week off with some bits of basketball news that hit the internet a little over a couple hours ago. We start things off with the New Orleans Hornets, who have just announced that their coach, Monty Williams, has been signed on for another four years. Williams is a former NBA player whose career took him to the Orlando Magic, Philadelphia 76ers, San Antonio Spurs and the New York Knicks. As a coach, he started in 2005 as an assistant coach for the Portland Trail Blazers, and he has been the head coach for the New Orleans Hornets for the past two years. Even though he came in a time when the Hornets were still uncertain of their future, Williams signed on for another four years now, so it seems like he’s found his place within the team. No other contract details were leaked, apart from the fact that Williams will lead the team until the 2015-2016 season.
Over at the Portland Trail Blazers, Terry Stotts, the team’s head coach, has just announced three new additions to his coaching staff. He has hired Kim Hughes, David Vanterpool and Jay Triano as assistant coaches. You might have heard of David Vanterpool from his two seasons at the Oklahoma City Thunder pro scout, or from his season playing with the Washington Wizards (in 2000-2001), before going to CSKA Moscow to play, then coach the team. Kim Hughes was the assistant coach for the Los Angeles Clippers for seven seasons, from 2003 to 2010, and he was the interim head coach for the 2009-2010 final matches. And last, but not least, Jay Triano, is known for his three seasons as head coach at the Toronto Raptors, and playing in the Canadian national team in three separate Olympics.
