The most prestigious tennis tournament in the world is getting very close to the final match and we already know one of the finalists. Roger Federer has earned a spot in the final after beating last year’s winner, Novak Djokovic, in a pretty convincing manner and with a very aggressive style. It is one of the most anticipated sports events of the year and he will now go up against the winner of the other semifinals which is being played between Andy Murray and Jo-Wilfried.
Making it to the final is not something new for Federer as he has now set a new record of most Wimbledon Finals, this being the eight one so far. With a total of 6 titles, he is now one win away from reaching Pete Sampras’ record. After the match with Novak, Federer declared that it felt really good winning against such a great player that has done very well in the past few years. There will be a lot of pressure on the young tennis player as he goes into the final no matter who he will play against. The whole world will be watching to see if he can do it once again and take the all-time Grand Slam record.
As we are getting close to the final, gamblers will be able to place their bets once the other semifinal concludes and we know the other finalist. Neither Murray nor Tsonga has won a Grand Slam title so far and it is expected for Federer to be the favorite this year. During the semifinal match, Djokovic had a pretty good chance at some point when the score was 4-4 and he was on his third break point. Federer declared that it was a really hard game and that he tried to keep up the aggression which eventually paid off when Djokovic made a few mistakes and gave Federer a pair of break points. The eight time finalist took advantage of these opportunities and made his way towards the 2012 Final at Wimbledon.
Federer has never lost in a semifinal until now and the only time he lost in the final was in 2008 when Rafael Nadal barely managed to edge ahead in the fifth set with a 9-7 score.
For those that watched this game, he was the better player and he deserved the win; Djokovic has declared the same and he also added that he was expecting this from him.
Come Sunday, and we will get to see who will take the title this year. Even if we don’t yet know the other finalist, it is clear that Roger Federer is in a great shape and has a very good shot at winning this. Enthusiasts will soon be able to start placing bets as they wait for the big match to start.
