Basketball Bets
Basketball betting enthusiasts have a wide choice when it comes to placing wagers on their favorite basketball team. Traditionally, people would place straight bets or money line wagers for basketball betting. Then came the point spread that changed the approach to basketball wagering. More recently, basketball sports gamblers enjoy placing specialty or exotic bets which aim to bet on different events during the game. Some of these exotic bets are basketball parlays, futures, teasers and proposition bets. In one of our recent articles, we have discussed basketball parlays. Here we’ll try and explain Teasers, Futures and Prop Bets.
The Basketball Teaser Bets
The Teaser bet is quite similar to parlay bets wherein you must predict the outcome of two or more games, correctly. Nevertheless, there is a difference between parlays and teasers in that the parlays allow you to bet against the point spread while in a teaser, you have no other option but to follow the point spread. The point spread can however be realigned by the bettor to suit the level of risk he intends to take. Adjustments of the point spread can be up to 5 points in some cases.
Just like basketball parlays, teasers will pay out only if all the selections are correctly predicted. Even if one selection does not come through, the teaser bet will be lost and the gambler loses his stake. If one of the selections is a tie, again the teaser bet is lost, though according to the terms of the teaser bet, an adjustment could be made in the total payout.
There are several sub types in a basketball teaser. The most popular ones are monster teasers and super teasers. A monster basketball teaser involves betting on only three teams and will fetch the bettor an additional seven points. Ties are a complete loss of the monster teaser bet while payoff rates are typically 120/100. In case of the super teaser bet, four teams are involved and the bettor gets an additional 10 points. Payoff rates are generally around 130/100.
Basketball Props or Proposition Bets
Bettors who want to wager on specific occurrences during a game purchase proposition bets. For example, which player is most likely to score the points in the game or which team is likely to commit the most faults in the game, and so on. Prop bets are highly individualistic bets that warrant a careful study of the betting odds that have been devised. Other historical data like past performances, etc must be carefully considered before going for a proposition bet.
Betting on Basketball Futures
Futures’ betting is like trading at the Stock Exchange. Here, the bets are made on games due to take place in the future. In other words, the bets are placed on games that haven’t been played as yet, but will take place at some time in future. Understandably these are high risk bets due to the length of time involved. Futures basketball betting odds are constantly being updated as bookmakers come by more and more information about the particular game. The online sports gambler must keep himself updated on the latest odds and decide if he intends to purchase the futures bet or not.
Due to the very nature of basketball futures the betting is kept simple with straight bets. Today you will find a number of online sports books offering futures betting. It is available for the NCAA March Madness and generates a lot of interest among sports betting enthusiasts. Basketball betting, whether it is straight bets or exotic bets, is a highly profitable endeavor if the bettor is skilled enough to make the right predictions.
