Hudson pushes his side over the victory line

The low scoring game ended with the Virginia Tech scoring just a couple of points higher above Virginia to a 47-45 victory. The loss means that it ends the nine wins that the Cavaliers had been enjoying on the trot. On the other hand, things took a much needed positive turn of events for the Virginia Tech as the team had to come out of four straight losses. The star Hudson, though started on after being on the reserve bench, scored 12 points for his side, and six points with just 2:12 minutes left on the clock. Hudson was later quoted on saying that the game got a “really nice finish”, and incidentally it was Hudson’s three pointers with 16.5 seconds on the clock, that sealed the deal for them.  On the other hand, though on the losing end, Erick Green had a nice outing, scoring 15 points for his side. The  game was a low scoring one, as the coach of the Cavaliers would agree, was due to some stout defending from both the sides.  The Virginia side was left with only 32 percent shooting due to the defending by the Hokies.

Hudson had been quite a show couple of seasons back. Due to serious knee and foot injuries in the last two seasons, his performance has taken quite a dent. But Hudson doesn’t seem to mind coming off the bench and not get be in the starting line, since it has been working well for him and the team.   The starred had once scored 41 for his team, but now comes out late into the game regularly scoring in double digits to give the team a much needed boost in the end.  The game rested at 47-43 when just before the final second, Joe Harris’ two pointers brought them in striking distance, but it was all too late. The Cavaliers had Evans, Harris and Scott who reached double figures and all of them triple teamed the entire game.

Virginia even after having won has some serious concerns brewing in their locker room because of their offensive strengths. The team makes for perfect defenses with a record second in the nation allowing just 50.4 points. The scoring seemed dismal with the team just shooting 25 percent in the opening half.

The game went neck and neck throughout, with each team replying point for point, which was interrupted of course by short droughts of no scoring by either side. One such example was a three minute dry period after which Harris scored to bring Virginia at 37, when there was 8.25 seconds left.

The Hockies found a budding star at hand in the form of Marquis Rankin, who came in to give them the lead at 40-39, replacing Green.  Zeglinski came in a couple of times to end a drought in scoring. He was responsible for hitting one free throw giving his side a 40-37 lead. Other than that, he didn’t have much of a game missing five three pointers. But as they say, it was that kind of a game, lots of hits and misses, good defense by both sides, but in the end one side had to win!
