San Antonio Spurs vs. Memphis Grizzlies 102-82
The San Antonio Spurs went up against the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday and they won 102-82 to get the top spot in the Western Conference. It was their ninth straight NBA win and Tony Parker stood out from the team with 20 points and five assists.
Tiago Splitter got 17 and 7 rebounds and the Spurs seemed to be on fire. Manu Ginobili added another 15 points to the scoreboard and got seven assists and five rebounds to stop Memphis’ four-game winning streak.
While Mike Conley had a great game and scored 28 points for the Grizzlies, the team lost Marc Gasol in the second quarter as he sprained his left knee. Conley was the Defensive Player of the Year last season and he was sent to the locker room after hurting his knee under the Spurs basket. More information on the injury will become available once he is evaluated by the medical staff.
Despite losing the Spanish center, Memphis managed to close down on a nine-point gap in the fourth quarter and made it 79-78. However, the Spurs quickly responded with their own hot run, scoring eight points to take back control of the match. After this point, the Grizzlies didn’t seem to have any more energy to respond and the Spurs pulled ahead for another important win in the NBA.
San Antonio will not be able to rest that much after this win as the Cleveland Cavaliers will visit them for a game on Saturday.
Cleveland Cavaliers at San Antonio Spurs
While the San Antonio Spurs enjoying the best start in franchise history, Cleveland has not been doing so well this season, losing 9 of their 13 games. This puts the Spurs in a good position to extend their streak to 10 despite having to travel to Cleveland just one day after playing against Memphis.
Online bookmaker Bovada is giving the Spurs a -12½ point spread, while placing the Over/Under line at 192. Try basketball betting at the Bovada betting site and get a 50% welcome bonus. Considering the great run the Spurs have been having after dropping one game to Portland three weeks ago, they are likely to cover the spread against the Cavs, which have been struggling recently.
With 53.2 percent shot on Friday against the Grizzlies and a 48.1 percent average this season, the Spurs are amongst the best teams in the league right now and in a great position to win the Eastern Conference for the second time in a row.
The last time Cleveland defeated San Antonio was in March 2010. The Cavaliers have lost five of their last six games and barely got the win against New Orleans on Friday, ending 104-100. Last time the Cavaliers faced the Spurs, they lost 119-113, and this happened on March 16.
NBA Standings
The Indiana Pacers continue to be on top in the Western Conference after only losing one game in their first 12 matches. Miami Heat has been struggling a bit at the begging of the season but seems to be getting back on track for a highly anticipated three-peat in 2014. There is still a lot to go until then and the Heat is now in second place in the West with a 9-3 record. The Atlanta Hawks are third and second in the Southeast division, after Miami, with 8-5.
The Portland Blazers are right on San Antonio’s tracks in the Western Conference, at 11-2, followed by the Oklahoma City Thunder with 8-3.
