After a pretty short NBA final between Miami Heat and Oklahoma City Thunder, LeBron James and friends took the title with a 3-1 final score. President Barack Obama didn’t waste any time to congratulate the team for their achievement and called them on Friday after the game from the Air Force One. It is a tradition for the U.S. president to invite the champions of all major sports and have a small gathering at the White House. Obama is also known for being a big basketball fan and he also enjoys playing with friends. The invitation comes as the icing on the cake for the Miami Heat as they are just getting used to the new rings.
It wasn’t an easy trip for Miami and the “Big Three” had to go through some big changes in order to get here. LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh decided to join Heat two years ago in search for the title but things didn’t really work out the first time around. They made it to the finals but lost to Dallas Mavericks so it was clear that the winning formula was not yet perfected. Wade had to make room for James to grow on the team and Bosh had to switch positions from power forward to center in order for the team to work better. The second attempt worked much better and while there were some bad games during the championship, the “Big Three” came through when it was needed. The win makes LeBron’s decision to move to Miami Heat a good one and the NBA MVP couldn’t be happier.
Before this finals started, Online Casinos had Oklahoma City as favorites to win the NBA Championship. Miami Heat weren’t looking very strong in the Eastern Conference Finals where they played seven games against Boston Celtics; a much lower ranked team that turned out to be the surprise of the championship as they gave Heat a run for their money. The betting odds by some of the biggest online sportsbooks had Thunder at 1.66 and Heat at 2.20 despite the Miami Trio starting as favorites in the championship.
After just four games, LeBron James finally gets a championship ring that has avoided him for so long despite taking part in three finals.
Thunder is now looking at some tough choices. The team climbed up the rankings from the bottom to the NBA Finals after making some small changes but keeping most of the same group of people. Despite being close to their goal, there will be some difficult decisions made this offseason as Scott Brooks’ contract is about to expire. Aside from the coach not being certain, important players such as James Harden and Derek Fisher are up in the air. It remains to be seen if the young Thunder core will remain intact or if the manager will decide to make some drastic changes while waiting for the next season.
For now, we can only congratulate Miami Heat for showing great strength in the NBA Finals and for the much deserved win.
