Western Conference Progresses with Thunder Taking a Lead over Lakers

Western conference experienced a highly electric Monday night with a match between Oklahoma City Thunder and Los Angeles Lakers. Thunders won convincingly with a 29 point lead. The final score stood at 119 to 90 in Thunder’s favor. Major contributors were Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant. Westbrook contributed 27 points along with 9 assists and Durant contributed another 25 points to seal in the match. Durant is from Texas University while Westbrook is from ULCA.

The Thunders fired and thundered against the Lakers, taking the match in the end


The first half of the match saw Thunders in the lead by 15 points. Oklahoma was not far behind. Soon, Oklahoma was at a lead of 35 points. The match saw a lot of action as the two teams fought out on the court. The audience was enthralled with a spate of 3-pointers and numerous dunks. Unfortunately, Thunder lost one of their key players. Kendrick Perkins had to opt out after he aggravated the hip injury which he had sustained earlier. Nevertheless, Thunder thundered over the Lakers and took the match away. For the Lakers, Andrew Bynum and Kobe Bryant did an awesome job by scoring 20 points each. Bynum further increased the score by adding 14 rebounds. However, the match turned in the favor of Thunders after halftime. The game play between Durant and Westbrook was worth watching for their perfect synchronization.

Lakers have been having a very inconsistent run in the present season. In a previous game, they lost to Denver. However, they got their rhythm back against the Nuggets in the following match, beating the in a thrilling match. The final score between the Nuggets and Lakers stood at 96-87 in favor of the Lakers. This was Game 7 of the series. On Monday night, they lost again to the Oklahoma Thunder. They need to bounce back in a big way to remain in the tournament. Their next match is on Wednesday night in Oklahoma City.

Just after halftime in the match between Lakers and Thunder, Durant scored a left wing 3 pointer. Immediately, the Lakers coach requested a time out. Following the break, Thunder kept up its pressure and Lakers could not match up to the highly charged players in the other team. Oklahoma kept up its pressure till the very end with Durant scoring another 3pointer. The game was exciting until the last minute. With just eight minutes left for finish, the match got more exciting. In the end Thunder won and Lakers lost what was one of their worst losses in the history of playoff.

Before the match, a lot of speculations were made regarding the winner of this crucial match. A lot of people expected Lakers to take the lead over Oklahoma. Much was on the basis that Lakers had defeated the Thunder in the previous clash between the two. Basketball betting clubs will surely have had some tense moments in the match. Also, when it comes to the western conference, Lakers have been one of the leading names in the tournament, having won Western Conference three times in a row in 2008, 2009 and 2010. The 2011 cup was taken by Dallas. From the time Western Conference was launched in 1947, Lakers have won the tournament a maximum number of times. In fact, to be precise, they have won a whopping 31 Western conference championships, which definitely makes them a favorite in the circuit. Oklahoma, on the other hand, has not won even one of the championship titles. However, gauging by the ways the Thunders from Oklahoma thundered in the last match against Lakers, it definitely looks like they are on a winning route this time. The tournament still holds a lot of matches. So, all you can do is wait, watch and feel the excitement.
